Wenger dismisses out of hand ridiculous transfer rumour

Throughout the past couple of days, we’ve had rumors running about stating that Arsenal are considering looking at bringing in Drogba from Shanghai Shenhua. We all know why him coming would be bad or better put, impossible but now with Wenger talking about the player, I suppose things weren’t as clear cut as before.
Wenger said, ‘At the moment no. In my opinion he is not free. He has just left England. I don’t know about the situation because he came out with a completely different statement.’
All this tells us if that, firstly Drogba can’t leave the Chinese club now because of FIFA regulations and their policies on free agents before and after transfer periods and secondly, that Wenger may still look into Drogba. It’s not everyday that Wenger talks openly about a rumor especially one that was speculated to be so ridiculous in the first place. Perhaps the rumor needed commenting on simply because of the speculation surrounding Giroud bad start to Arsenal and the familiarity of Drogba in English football.
I still feel that Drogba isn’t the man for Arsenal though. Even if Giroud turned out to be a complete flop we need young, fresh talent. There’s load of that in our youth squad and I’m convinced that even if Drogba was allowed to leave Shanghai Shenhua that Wenger wouldn’t want him. All the hype surrounding him is coming in from other reported clubs being interested in the player. The fact remains, Drogba isn’t the hot property he once was and if he still had something to offer then Chelsea would’ve kept him.
