The opening day of this season’s champion’s league group
stages was good for Arsenal in a number of ways. The obvious ones are
that we took all three points away from home, we didn’t pick up any
injuries, we showed that we can win when not playing our best and we got
a warning about being complacent without actually getting punished.
The bonuses came from the match between Real Madrid and Manchester City. Manchester City have a massive job on their hands picking themselves up after a terrible night in Europe and getting ready to face the Gunners on Sunday. City have not had a great start to the season and Roberto Mancini has a handful of problems to deal with.
City have internal disputes to deal with after Joe Hart blasted his team mates for failing to protect their precious lead with only five minutes of the game left. City’s defence struggled all night with the movement of Madrid, culminating in the usually reliable Vincent Kompany almost ducking out the way of Ronaldo’s late shot that proved to be the winning goal.
City lost their new right back Maicon to injury and he was brought in to cover for the injured Micah Richards so Arsenal’s left side will be able to run riot on Sunday. Arsenal’s favourite former player, smiling Samir Nasri, was also injured so Mancini has a selection nightmare. He has new players such as Javi Garcia and Jack Rodwell and players returning from injury such as Sergio Aguero and Gareth Barry but the team have got no consistent shape yet this season.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have got a solid team ethic working and only make a couple of changes per match. The Ox or Walcott could come in without disturbing the balance. Maybe Koscielny would be a good change because his pace is better suited to deal with the City forwards. Ramsey or Coquelin could be brought in to make us more defensive but we are confident and playing well, so all the pressure is on the champions.
I have a good feeling about Sunday and cannot wait for the game .
Come On You Gunners! and share with me
