Arsenal kick started their Champions League quest with an impressive
2-1 win away from home against a resurgent Montpellier. Despite the
media reporting ho easy Arsenal would have it, the French Champions put
up a fight in the second half. Here are the match stats:

So, on paper Montpellier had the better stats but the Gunners held
off for an impressive victory in what was a difficult away match.
Arsenal are then unbeaten this season and will play Man City away on
Sunday with a fresh bout of confidence.
The match started off badly for the Gunners after conceding a penalty
but they soon regained their composure to slot goals in quick
succession. Although the second half lacked flare on the Gunner’s part,
they still held on for the win against the French Champions with
relative ease. The two player who made the difference were the goal
scorers, Podolski in the 16th minute, followed shortly by Gervinho in
the 18thminute.
Gervinho has enjoyed a terrific start to the season and scored what
proved to be the match winner in the 18th minute. Carl Jenkinson
gathered a loose ball, bolted in space and crossed beautifully for
Gervinho to slot home. The Ivorian dominated Bedimo which created a
reliable space for Arsenal on the right side of the park. The Gunners
next Champions league game will be against Olympiacos when they welcome
them to the Emirates on the 3rd of October.
